Friday Night Folk: Windborne @ All Souls Fri Nov 19

The internationally-acclaimed vocal ensemble Windborne includes four singers who grew up immersed in the traditional song and dance communities of New England. For over a decade, Windborne has sought out masters of traditional singing in the US and around the world. Through these collaborations, they have developed the vocal agility and authentic sound for which they are known…. Their repertoire includes music from the Republic of Georgia, Corsica, Bulgaria, the Basque region, and Quebec, but they remain deeply rooted in American folk singing traditions as well.

Tickets are $19 in advance, $10 for students and active Military with ID, and $22 at the door (as available). Get your tickets early! Reserve your seat on EventBrite or by calling All Souls at 860-443-0316 by November 18. All Souls is located at 19 Jay Street in New London. 

Keeping us all Covid safe: Masks and proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test within 72 hours are required. Seating is limited to half capacity. Everyone will sign in, and (sadly) our famous refreshments will not be available as masks are required throughout the evening.

BOWEN to Play Benefit for Veterans @ Garde Arts Center Oasis Room Fri Nov 19

BOWEN, an American rock band, based in Southeastern Connecticut, who performs and records throughout the US, presents an evening of on-your-feet originals and classics in the Oasis Room, to benefit the Gary Sinise Foundation, a charitable organization that provides support for veterans and military families. 

A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will go towards those families in need. Come show your support for America’s heroes! 

In 2016, Bowen’s single, “Picture,” received Grammy ballot recognition for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Rock Song. They are currently supported by Boston-based indie record label Brewhouse Records and production house Aberrant Sound.

This new weekly event features a core group of seasoned local musicians, (with additional weekly guests sitting in), all set in a cozy café atmosphere in the upstairs front room of the Frohsinn Hall at the Mystic German Club.

Wailing City Spotlight: Interview with Ghost Child

For those of you, (like myself), that love alternative rock -- you're in luck. Ghost Child from Groton are bringing numerous styles together in their songwriting to create a familiar yet new take to the alternative rock sound -- and its solid. 

Their most recent album 'As the Moonlight Backs the Sun' -- released last year, has a strong 90's alternative influence with a punk and emo flair - not to mention was skillfully engineered and produced. It definitely has my vote for best autumn driving tunes right now. My favorite tracks are "This is the Way", "Oh, Love", "Remember" and "Better Off"-- which you can listen to in the article below.
