Parade Plaza

The Center is the Center! Parade Plaza events are in the very epicenter of the sprawling metropolist of New London. All roads, ships, trains and buses lead to the Parade Plaza located at 150 Water Street across from the Amtrak and Shoreline East Train Stations, the Cross Sound/LI Ferry and the Fisher Island Ferry, and the Greyhound Bus Terminal.

In the Spring of 2010, nine local organizations began to partner and collaborate on the historic rededication of the pre-revolutionary Parade Plaza. This site was reeking with history and was the ‘go-to- place before newspapers, radios and tweets! The City of New London had just finished a $10 Million renovation, the place looked fantastic, and the wanted something to kick-off the reopening of the Parade Plaza.

Voila! Parade Plaza is created with a great team including the Garde Arts Center, Hygienic Art, Neff Productions, Custom House Maritime Museum, Kitchings Productions, New London Land Marks, Water Street (Arts) Garage, Nathan Hale School House, and New London Main Street. All of this under the direction of Mayor Rob Pero and City Manager Martin Berliner.

Bugles! Drums! Fireworks! Notables! Dancing = Celebration
BerParadeParade took place all day on June 6, 2010 with 200 musicains, rooftop buglers, Nathan Hale Birthday Party, Mayor Pero cutting the proverbial red ribbon 30 feet in the air from a cherry picker, to a spontaneous dance with hunders of local participants (U-tube the dance).

“We get by with a little help from our friends…” Pfizer, CT Cpommission on Cultutel and Tourism, Chelsea Groton Bank, Cross Sound Ferry, Veolia Water, Centerplate, Carabetta Organization, MetroCast, Fusco Corp, Water Street Garage, TCORS, Citadel Radio, and The Day Newspaper.

Provide the a culturally diverse program of international artists and support the outstanding emerging and local artists from the region.
