Second Night: Through The Looking Glass on NOV 28!

Second Night: Through The Looking Glass
Benefit for Gemma Moran Food Center
Friday Nov 28!

An evening of Fashion, Painting, Sculpture, Music & Theatre!

Crocker House Ballroom, 33 Union Street, 8pm, dress to impress!

On Friday evening, November 28th, the public is welcomed and encouraged to
participate in a full evening of the arts in Downtown New London.

SECOND NIGHT: Through The Looking Glass is an integrated art event featuring theatrical short-play performances and interactive art installations comprised of paintings, sculpture, fashion and music set in the beautiful Crocker House Ballroom located at 33 Union Street, on the corner of Union and Golden Street. A wine, coffee and dessert bar will be provided for what will be an art exhibition like no other.
The event will bring together the collective talents of both visual and performing artists, many who are collaborating together for the first time.

The proceeds from the event will benefit the Gemma E. Moran Food Center in New London, an organization established in 1988 as a coalition between the Labor Movement of Southeastern Connecticut and the United Way. The Food Center distributes food to more than eighty food assistance programs throughout New London County, including soup kitchens, shelters, residential rehabilitation programs, and programs for the elderly, children and teens, and victims of abuse, but recent unfortunate cuts in funding have made it difficult for the Food Center to continue their efforts. The public support of this event will be significant in furthering the community mission of enabling many who are without to have something to also be thankful for.

Doors for SECOND NIGHT open at 8pm but people are encouraged to make a whole evening of the event, dining downtown before embarking on an Art Stroll through all the local art galleries. Certain galleries will be featuring 'special exhibits' – displays of SECOND NIGHT specific artwork and clues to fragmented riddles that, if solved, will entitle the solver to certain privileges at the gala event.

Tickets for SECOND NIGHT are $20 in advance and $25 if purchased at the door.

Tickets may be purchased at the following locations:

Hygienic Art – 79-83 Bank Street
Golden Street Gallery – 94 Golden Street
MUSE shoes/gallery – 102 Golden Street
140 Below – 140-B State Street
TAKEOUT – 15 Green Street
Bean & Leaf – 13 Washington Street
Crocker House (Management Office) – 180 State Street entrance

Tickets may be purchased with cash. Credit card purchases may be made at galleries/locations that are set up to do so, or by calling the SECOND NIGHT Production Office at 860-443-3786.

New London loses another talented musician...

New London mourns yet another...
RIP Randy From The Electric Noise Act

Taken from The New London Day October 14:

Randell Johnston

Waterford - Randell "Randy" Johnston, 20, caring and compassionate son and brother, passed away Oct. 11, 2008. He was born in Norwich, and grew up the son of Michael and Karine (Miller) Heard of Quaker Hill, and father Ronald Johnston of Gales Ferry. He attended Waterford schools and graduated from Waterford High School in 2006.

After high school, Randy pursued a path unfamiliar to many he knew. He sought after, and achieved, success as a high fashion model with Ford Models Europe and New York City. Although his time was brief, he worked hard to promote his personal success in a high pressure industry.

When he came into your presence, he had the ability to bring a smile and laughter to all. Randy had many friends and diverse interests. He played drums in a local band, The Electric Noise Act, and enjoyed skateboarding, art, soccer, and music. He enjoyed boating with his family and was an avid reader.

Randy truly enjoyed seeing different places, cultures and people, which his modeling career afforded him the opportunity to do.

Randy is survived by his supportive and loving parents, Mike and Karine, as well as his best friends, brother, Brent Johnston and sister, Madison Heard. His Uncle, "Iggy" Erik Miller, as well as grandparents, Robert and Faye Miller of Ledyard and Carl and Joyce Heard of Florida will miss him greatly.

His easy smile, and life loving presence, will be forever missed by all who were blessed to know him.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington CT 06111 or online at www.cthumane.org

Calling hours will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday followed by a celebration of Randy's life at 11 a.m. on Oct. 16, 2008, at Lester Gee Funeral Home, 108 Blinman St., New London.

Phil Agins Scholarship Announced on
Berklee College Of Music Website!

Berklee College Of Music has established a new scholarship in memory of Philip Agins, who passed away on April 14, 2008. Philip attended the Berklee Five-Week Summer Performance Program in 1999. He entered the program as a novice bass player, but came home a true musician with confidence, skills and a love of performing. Philip was given the opportunity to attend the Five-Week program thanks to a generous gift from a family friend. Philip's family would like to extend this gift to others by creating a scholarship in his name that would provide assistance to other budding musicians hoping to have a life-changing experience similar to Philip's.
